Tony W. Jansma (1934-2004) was born at Lester, Ia, the son of Walter and Jennie Jansma. The family moved to a farm southwest of Rock Rapids in the 40’s. He attended country school, Cleveland #1, through the 8th grade. At age 16, Tony started buying cattle, one small truckload at a time, and by age 18, he graduated to a semitruck load – always driving the truck himself. He was drafted into the army in 1957, serving in the 4th Armored Division at Ft. Hood, Texas. Uon completion of serving his country, he returned to his self-taught occupation – ‘cattle buyer’ – spanning almost six decades. Tony loyally served the cattle industry in all aspects such as: hosting the country 4-H Club calf weigh-in for 20 years, serving as a judge for the National Auctioneer Championship Contests, buying cattle for farmer feeders, plus large and small commercial feedlots across the United States.”
