Siouxland hometown celebration in Peters Park, Sioux City

16 May

The Morningside area of Sioux City held its own celebration Thursday evening, a tradition spanning 50+ years for a small portion of the community. It is one of the few parades in the small city that any of the high school bands play in any more. Local organizations, politicians running for re-election, the Abu Bekr Shrine clowns, veterans and a few others toting candy and treats for children lining the streets. It’s impressive that so many turn out for the yearly event that also features a small carnival with rides in the area as well. Giving one the idea that small town America, even when not so small, still thrives.
