Summer marches into Siouxland

15 May

This weekend in Sioux City, Iowa, is Morningside Days. Morningside is one section of the community that local residents still associate with. It has a small “downtown” area near a satellite public library. Peters Park, which is really a car park, used to be a real park with landscaping and trees, grass and benches for residents around the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Before all the progress. But somewhere in the 50’s local business leaders got together and started Morningside Days. A carnival shows up with rides, there is a parade, and that is about it. But residents in the immediate area show up and so one gets a sense of pride of people living in this section of Sioux City. Of course, if it’s a parade, there is bound to be candy tossed to the kids.

But with the arrival of Morningside Days, one knows the school year is winding down and summer is nearby. Ready to share its warmth and continue that process of seasons.
