Rodeo in Siouxland, Cherokee

27 May

Coming up soon in Siouxland will be the Cherokee Rodeo Days in Cherokee, Iowa. I visited Cherokee a few years ago and saw the parade which is on a Saturday and went to the rodeo that evening. It’s an all day event that is a lot of fun. During that visit I met some gentlemen with the Iowa Western Border Agents gun club who participated in the parade. These are men and boys who enjoy western action shooting, dressing up in traditional wear and sporting the firearms that were used in the Old West.

Normal guys who enjoy an interesting hobby, which is really no different than those reenactors who participate in the Lewis and Clark rendezvous get togethers or Civil War reenactors. They staged a shoot out during the parade the year I attended. The parade is made up of a variety of floats and residents and visitors alike line the streets to enjoy it prior to heading over to the rodeo grounds. Another community celebration that lets people know summer has arrived and it will only get better.
