Siouxland small town exploration, Larrabee

6 Oct

Driving into the eastern part of Siouxland in Cherokee County I came upon a small town called Larrabee. According to some online information the small community is named after a former Iowan governor whose term ran in the 19th Century. The information provided says Gov. William Larrabee came to Iowa in 1853, later became involved in politics and was elected governor in 1886. As I have mentioned about other small Iowa towns, local industry except for agriculture and grain elevators is mostly nonexistent. No reflection on the people living there, but the migration to larger towns and cities and the advent of transportation improvements meant that children to more easily travel from their homes in search of adventure and other economic opportunities.
