A Winter’s Walk in Siouxland, Sioux City

8 Jan

This past week I went out for a walk in my neighborhood in Sioux City on two snow-filled days, but which were entirely different. One day was sunny and cold with temps maybe in the teens and the snow on the ground crusty. The other it was warmer, hoar frost held tightly to the trees and other outdoor items it was attached too, and created a nether world to walk through. As I remind students in my classes, that visiting the same place time and again will result in different photos because the light is never the same, and the seasons can also play a part. On really cold days it isn’t all that pleasant to walk about, but I find it is not too bad if dressed appropriately and if one keeps it short. Winter may have officially begun in December, 2015, but it certainly has not ended this January. I expect more cold and snow will be visited on the Siouxland region in the days and weeks ahead.
