Exploring Siouxland, Pierson

15 Jul

Earlier this year I was driving about and stopped into a small community I have passed by earlier, but never took the time to explore, Pierson, Iowa. It is like so many small communities in Iowa, with its beginning in the late 1800’s and growth in the early 1900’s. So many of these communities had their own banks, general stores, and other places of commerce. And now, while most still have banks, the business or commerce driver is generally a grain elevator, along with some smaller shops, a gas station and a place to eat breakfast and lunch.

With changing times and demographics and business climate moving away from an agricultural base, many of the sons and daughters of the later residents moved to larger urban settings and outside of the state to look for adventure and opportunity. As with time, these communities ebb and flow with changes that continue.
