Optical illusions in Siouxland, Yankton, SD

17 Jan

I always like visual puns when I come across them. Some are more successful than others. During an outing to Yankton, SD, in northern Siouxland I came across the shadow of a tree that seemed “attached” to this building downtown that it was growing near.

During other seasons the tree’s leaves would shade too much of the building and this illusion would not be seen as one could not “see the forest for the trees”. Later while walking down along the Missiour River which runs along Yankton, the water seemed still, and it was a quiet day without much wind. And it appeared this dock was floating, in space.

I always tell people attending my Lifelong Learning photography classes that one never really knows what might be found while out shooting, and just being aware can sometimes turn an outing into more of a success than not. I always shoot a lot anyway when I am looking for photos, but I still like to enjoy little gems, even for myself, when I come across them.
