Even in Siouxland one knows that summer is approaching when the minor league teams and the “Boys of Summer” start their seasonal play. I believe last year the games like much of other scheduled events were cancelled because of the pandemic. Not exactly a baseball aficionado myself, fans turned out for one of the first games of the season. Though hopefully the season will catch fire for the home team.

It was nice to see though there was some generational appeal to those attending the game. I noticed from covering the sport years ago many long-time fans in attendance. I find baseball a little faster and more interesting than watching golf, which to me is like watching paint dry. Plus the insufferable fact that those sports people can’t deal with any noise. Where’s the fun in that.

Baseball at least has a bit of poetry to it when watching the players and trying to capture action.

In sports one never knows how the game action will break. Like a putt in golf. An errant blade of grass and the spoils of victory is snatched, snatched from that player. Bad groundskeeper. But it does give sporting attendees a chance to express their feelings though, and umpires hear the immediate cat calls and other biased responses. Fans showing a little love to the home team, and wait for the next at bat to see if fate will deliver a win for the home team for bragging rights until the next game.
