While watching critters, birds and other animals in Siouxland, I am sometimes amazed at the civil behavior I witness. When photographing birds feeding they will often times work to move one another out of the way so they too can get a “seat at the table” of a particular bird feeder. But watching a couple of house finches, which could actually be mates, the male watched as the female drank from a bird feeder and then helped himself. Whether planned or not or behavioral or not, this particular day the male was chivalrous to the female until they drank their fill and left.

Nice photo and chivalry in action is always great to see! Keep warm up north, Jerry! Lori
Lori,
Thank you. Well, the bird bath was big enough so no shoving and parrying to get to the water. Watched other birds jostle one another to get a drink. But I think this pair is a couple. And yeah, staying warm in some respects has been problematic. Looking forward to warmer weather, at least in the 30’s. Cabin fever is setting in, but trying to avoid Jack and his frosty presence.
If we just had a few more bird baths in our society we might be able to learn a few things. Clearly these birds do not have social media to polarize them.
Guffaw, guffaw. Or, “Splish, splash, I was taking a bath, round about Saturday night.”
They are fun to watch. This winter when it was extremely cold i would find a few different species sitting together on a heated water bowl I had on my deck taking turns drinking.
