Birding in Siouxland and dreaming of Spring, Rural Woodbury County

3 Mar

This morning, the third day of March, 2014, the temperature was a minus 5 degrees Fahrenheit, and is expected to reach its warmest peak around 5 p.m., an expected 16 degrees above zero. This winter, although devoid of a lot of snow, has been brutally cold with temperatures below 15 degrees, many times below zero. Add in the prairie wind and wind chill could easily hit – 15 and -20 degrees Fahrenheit. This video piece was something I photographed in Woodbury County August, 2008, but had never produced. With the cold, cold winter and spring only 18 days away, now seemed an appropriate time to look forward to warmer temperatures and an activity out of doors in shirt sleeves. Bill Huser is a local birder, a member of the local Audubon Society ( the Loess Hills Audubon Society ), and occasionally takes neophyte groups of people along to interest them in the sport and enjoy a nice day out. This is one of those days.
