Morning is rising in Siouxland, Sioux City

11 Jan

With the rollback of daylight saving’s in Siouxland the sunrise is a lot nicer to see happening around 7:30 rather than 5 or 5:30 a.m. Although I am generally awake or getting there anyway, I should have taken advantage of the recent warmer winter days to get out and photograph sunrises. But alas, I did not. That second cup of coffee has a strong pull and so I sat in my backyard and watched morning take shape. Rich hues as the sun began to rise above a horizon line I could not see and the sky turning crimson for the start of a new day. I guess I could make a New Year’s resolution and make the effort next year to get out earlier. And maybe I will, after that second cup of coffee.

Siouxland’s Stormy Morning Skies, Woodbury County

The weather again in Siouxland has been vacillating between stormy and clear, but hot and humid all the time. But stormy morning skies can be beautiful, especially when the sun breaks through to help accentuate the landscape. I found that true this morning. The other benefit is that I don’t have to water any plants for another day with some rainfall. And when the sun is coming up and the clouds are passing through, one doesn’t always get the chance to get to an area to capture what might be a spectacular photograph, but you sometimes feel like you are settling for what you see at that moment and capturing what is happening before, so transient and fleeting as the morning light can be.

Siouxland’s Morning Light, Sioux City

Waking up early can sometimes be a challenge. The first cup of coffee can help, the aroma gets the senses going, and then stepping outside and hearing the birds and their chatter. But it’s seeing the first light of day that inspires me, as the sun spreads its glow across the sky in Siouxland. I am not always awake enough and quick enough to capture this light. Sometimes it takes a concerted effort because so much is going on as the day starts. But morning light has its own special quality, no matter where you find it. And if nothing else, enjoy it.
